Quadripartite Meeting of Ministers of Foreign Affairs in Vaduz
20.08.2012The Head of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA) Didier Burkhalter will travel to Vaduz on Wednesday for a working meeting with his Liechtenstein, German, and Austrian counterparts. The focus of the meeting between Mr. Didier Burkhalter, Ms. Aurelia Frick, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Principality of Liechtenstein, Mr. Guido Westerwelle, German Minister for Foreign Affairs, and Mr. Michael Spindelegger, Vice Chancellor and Foreign Minister of Austria will primarily be on political, economic, and cultural issues.
Meetings of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Switzerland, the Principality of Liechtenstein, and Austria are held at regular intervals. This year in Vaduz, Germany will also be represented. These meetings serve to strengthen the ties and the cooperation between the four countries, contributing thereby to enhancing their good-neighbour relations and exchanging information. In August 2011, for instance, former Swiss President Ms. Micheline Calmy-Rey received the visit of Ms. Aurelia Frick and Mr. Spindelegger at the Lohn country manor in Kehrsatz.
The Ministers of Foreign Affairs will speak about the political, economic, social, and cultural links that unite Switzerland, Austria, Germany, and the Principality of Liechtenstein. Mr. Burkhalter, Ms. Frick, Mr. Spindelegger, and Mr. Westerwelle will also touch upon current issues relating to the EU and the financial crisis. They will also discuss various themes pertaining to the multilateral domain, one of which notably concerns the Chairmanship of the OSCE which Switzerland will assume in 2014. Finally, talks will also examine the international situation, namely in Syria, northern Africa, and Afghanistan.
At the end of their working meeting, the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Switzerland, the Principality of Liechtenstein, Austria, and Germany, will pay a courtesy call on Reigning Prince Aloïs of Liechtenstein.
