Old-Age, Survivors' and Invalidity Insurance (AHV/IV) – Soliswiss
Life certificates may generally be endorsed by the following authorities:
- Local authority at your place of residence
- Liaison unit of the local social insurance office
- Swiss representation abroad which has a consular section
- Doctors, retirement homes and hospitals on the following condition: mandatory medical certificate and only for single benefit recipients who are not able to travel.
Please note that the Swiss representations in Luanda, Gaborone, Lilongwe, Quatre Bornes, Lusaka and Harare do not have a consular section or a public counter. Life certificates should therefore always be endorsed by the relevant local authorities and not by the representation. If you have any questions, please contact the Regional Consular Centre Southern Africa in Pretoria.
Notaries and the police may also confirm that a person is alive, but they may not under any circumstances confirm their civil status. The life certificate form will therefore be incomplete.
The life certificate form of a Swiss citizen, on which a recognised authority confirms that the person is alive but not their civil status, may still be accepted if the civil status given on the form corresponds to the entry in the register of the relevant Swiss representation. In such cases, the Regional Consular Centre Southern Africa in Pretoria must sign the form additionally.
The Swiss Compensation Office and the disability insurance unit for insured persons abroad, both of which are units within the Central Compensation Office, are the bodies responsible for voluntary AHV/IV arrangements.
