The following documents must be submitted to the Regional Consular Centre Pretoria to register a birth in Swiss civil registries:

  • Birth certificate (original) of the child, with apostille affixed. If the child’s parents are not married, please contact the Regional Consular Centre Pretoria.
  • 1 photocopy of the passport (page with information on identity only) of the child (if possible).

The Hague Convention Apostille can be obtained from the Prime Minister’s Office, Hôtel du Gouvernement, Port Louis


Request for the preparation of a marriage in Switzerland

 
Documents to be submitted in person at the Regional Consular Centre Pretoria or directly in Switzerland at the start of a marriage procedure:

  • Birth certificate (original) dated less than six months earlier, with apostille affixed
  • Affidavit (in French) with apostille affixed in which the applicant states his/her: 
    – nationality 
    – marital status 
    – place of residence
  • Photocopy of one of the following documents concerning the Swiss spouse:
    birth certificate/certificate of marital status/certificate of origin
  • Photocopy of the Swiss spouse’s passport.
  • Request for a visa (visa D for long term stay) x 3 (www.eda.admin.ch/pretoria )
  • 4 colour photos as per Schengen rules
  • The applicant’s passport plus 3 photocopies of the passport (page with personal information)

Divorced persons:

  • Divorce decree translated into French, with apostille affixed*

Widow/er:

  • Death certificate of the spouse/deceased person, with apostille affixed

Citizens of Mauritius must contact the Regional Consular Centre Pretoria before forwarding the documents.

The request for permission to enter Switzerland must be forwarded to the competent authorities in Switzerland. The waiting period for a reply is approximately 12 weeks.

The Hague Convention Apostille can be obtained from the Prime Minister’s Office, Hôtel du Gouvernement, Port Louis.


Registration of a marriage in Swiss civil registries

 
For the registration of a marriage in Swiss civil registries, please submit the following documents to the Regional Consular Centre Pretoria:

  • Marriage certificate (original) dated less than six months earlier, with apostille affixed
  • Birth certificate (original) of the Mauritian spouse, dated less than six months earlier, with apostille affixed
  • Passport of the Mauritian spouse + 1 photocopy
  • Passport of the Swiss spouse + 1 photocopy
  • Photocopy of one of the following documents concerning the Swiss spouse:
    birth certificate/certificate of marital status/certificate of origin

Divorced Mauritian spouse:

  • Certificate of previous marriage (original) with mention of the divorce, dated less than six months earlier, with apostille affixed
  • Divorce decree (original) translated into French, with apostille affixed

Mauritian spouse who is a widow/er:

  • Marriage certificate (original), with apostille affixed
  • Death certificate (original) of spouse, with apostille affixed

Application for entry visa for Switzerland to stay with Swiss spouse (family reunification) – see 
 Visa 

If you wish to take up residence in Switzerland after the marriage please note that an application for a long term visa must be submitted to the Regional Consular Centre Pretoria. (Procedure requires 8 to 12 weeks.)

Civil marriage of tourists of Swiss nationality in Mauritius

 
The following documents must be submitted to the Regional Consular Centre Pretoria to register a marriage in Switzerland:

  • Certificate of marriage (one original), with apostille affixed
  • Questionnaire «Registration of marriage» duly completed and signed
  • 1 photocopy of the passports (page with information on identity only)
  • 1 photocopy of birth certificates

The foreign spouse of a Swiss citizen must submit:

  • the original of his/her birth certificate

If divorced at the time of marriage:

  • the original of the divorce decree

If a widow/er at the time of the marriage

  • the original of the death certificate of the spouse/deceased person
