On 27 Novemer 2008 the mixed committee of the JHA (Council of ministers for Justice and Home affairs) decided in Bruxelles that the Schengen and Dublin association agreements of Switzerland will be fully implemented as of Friday, 12 December 2008.
From this date on travellers holding valid Schengen visas will be accepted to enter Switzerland.
Swiss visas will still be valid for Switzerland until the date of expiry, even after the accession of Switzerland to Schengen, but they will not entitle to enter other Schengen states.The Embassy of Switzerland has started issuing Schengen visas since 15 December 2008.
After successfully completing the celebration of 60 years of the Friendship Treaty between India and Switzerland in 2008, the celebration of this great friendship is being carried forward in the year 2009, under the theme 'Science and Education'.
