Introduction of the new Swiss biometric Passport 2010

The introduction of the electronically readable Swiss passport with biometric data is scheduled for 1 March 2010. This adjustment to international standards means that you can continue to use your Swiss passport to travel freely around the world and your travel security will be increased. Swiss citizens with a "passport 10" will be able to travel to the USA without a visa.

Application for the issuance of travel documents abroad

You may submit your appointment to record your biometric data for your new passport at the Embassy via the Internet as from 24.2.2010 on the website link located on the right of the page.

Please note:
Passports issued prior to 1 March 2010 will remain valid even after introduction of the new passport in 2010, subject to any entry restrictions in force in the country to which you are travelling.
