Starting May 15, 2014, all visa applicants in our jurisdiction will have to apply in person at this Embassy in Washington D.C. This is due to the introduction of the biometric procedure in the Schengen area which includes the fingerprinting to register the biometric data of each applicant.


Telephone hours:
Visa appointments can only be scheduled by phone starting May 1, 2014, at (202) 316-4010, Monday-Thursday between 2pm – 3pm only. No appointments will be scheduled by e-mail, at the counter or through another phone line. If you need to reschedule your appointment, you will need to call the appointment hotline.

For specific visa inquiries you may call us at 202 745 7979 (starting May 1, 2014), Monday-Thursday between 8:30am – 9:30am and 2pm – 3pm only, or by email  was.visa@eda.admin.ch

Applicants residing in Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Missouri, Nebraska and U.S. territories without Swiss representation (Guam and Saipan) can file applications by mail, as well as those residents of Virginia and West Virginia whose zip codes do not begin with the following first 3 digits

Virginia: 201, 217, 220-232

West Virginia: 254, 267, 268

However, if necessary, a personal interview might be required.

Visas cannot be processed on the same day. If you wish to have your passport/visa returned by mail after processing, please provide a prepaid self-addressed return envelope with a tracking number, indicating your name and address as both the sender and the recipient.

Payment options: cash or major credit cards are accepted. By mail, only a money order will be accepted.
