Somalia, UNHAS Sustaining Humanitarian Access in Somalia

01.08.2026 - 31.12.2027

The humanitarian situation in Somalia remains dire, with access constraints limiting support to vulnerable communities. As conflict, insecurity, and poor infrastructure leave many areas reachable only by air, the United Nations Humanitarian Air Service (UNHAS) provides a vital lifeline. Through its support to UNHAS, Switzerland enables humanitarian and development actors to sustain operations, deliver life-saving assistance, and reach those most in need.

Somalia, UNDP Joint Programme Saameynta: Scaling up Solutions to Displacement

01.07.2026 - 30.06.2030

Somalia faces large scale displacement. Over 3.9 million people are internally displaced by conflict and climate shocks. Through this project, Switzerland supports displaced and host communities in Baidoa and Bosasso to better access services, secure land and housing, and improve livelihoods. By combining urban planning with economic opportunities and stronger governance, people will move from long-term aid dependency towards sustainable integration.

Somalia Cash Consortium, Emergency Multi-Purpose Cash Assistance

01.04.2026 - 31.03.2030

Somalia remains a hyper fragile context with recurrent, complex humanitarian crisis. The project aims to provide life-saving Multi-Purpose Cash Assistance (MPCA) to crisis-affected communities in Somalia. It prioritizes those most left behind, including newly displaced and highly food insecure individuals. As an emergency intervention, the project complements SDC’s broader effort to sustainably strengthen the resilience of vulnerable communities across Somalia.

Somalia: Framework for Risk Governance and Adaptive Programming (FRAP)

01.01.2026 - 31.12.2029

Somalia and the adjacent arid and semi-arid lands represent a hyper-fragile context characterised by significant security and fiduciary risks. The Framework for Risk Governance and Adaptive Programming strengthens Switzerland’s capacity to operate effectively in such contexts through a range of risk management tools. At the same time, the project also contributes to strengthening the technical and organisational capacity of local actors operating in Somalia.

Wada Hadal – Local Dialogue for Peace

05.12.2025 - 31.07.2030

Conflict remains recurrent in Somalia and hampers the development of communities. Switzerland fosters inclusive and locally-led dialogue for peace initiatives to prevent and transform conflicts non-violently. It invests in local capacity and cooperation amongst peacebuilding actors. Communities’ enhanced conflict management capacity increases their ability to solve competition around natural resources, clan-based tensions and external pressures peacefully and sustainably, contributing to a more stable Somalia.

Private Sector Partnerships in Health (PSPH)

01.08.2025 - 31.07.2029

The programme aims to provide better access to affordable and quality health services. This will be through development and support of health financing products (health insurances) for the mass market to reduce high out of pocket payments and the support to health service delivery through health networks of private sector providers. This mandate is promoting affordable service provision to the population, which also feeds into the development agenda of Somalia of working with the private sector to promote sustainability in development.

SOM, Cash Consortium, Emergency multipurpose cash assistance

01.04.2025 - 31.03.2026

The project aims to provide life-saving Multi-Purpose Cash Assistance (MPCA) to crisis-affected communities in Somalia. The intervention will prioritize those most left behind including newly displaced and highly food insecure individuals. As a short-term emergency intervention, the project complements SDC’s broader effort to sustainably strengthen the resilience of vulnerable communities across Somalia and contribute to increased stability and prosperity.

Somalia, Water for Resilience (W4R) Programme

01.04.2025 - 31.07.2030

In Somalia, chronic water insecurity drives fragility by fueling conflict, displacement, and the erosion of livestock-based livelihoods. While private providers deliver most water services, the sector is hampered by weak performance, limited access to capital, and poor accountability. By addressing these constraints, Switzerland aims to improve water service delivery, strengthen the investment readiness of water enterprises, and ultimately enhance the resilience of (agro-)pastoral communities.

Extraordinary Additional Allocation of SDC Funding (Africa Division) in 2025 to ICRC Operations in DRC, Chad, Ethiopia, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan

01.01.2025 - 31.12.2025

SDC funding to ICRC operations allows the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) to respond proactively and to provide immediate protection and assistance for people affected by armed conflict and other situations of violence. In line with the Good Humanitarian Donorship (GHD) principles, Switzerland recognizes the necessity of predictable and flexible funding to respond to changing needs in humanitarian crises.

Community Health Provision in Somalia (CHASP)

01.05.2024 - 31.07.2027

The programme provides maternal and child health services in Somalia in targeted facilities.
