Swiss MPs Corina Eichenberger and Chantal Galladé and Swiss Ambassador to NATO Christian Meuwly were in Tirana to participate in the spring session of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly.

The Swiss representatives observed the proceedings and exchanged with counterparts who attended the session. They also met with Swiss Ambassador in Albania Christoph Graf.

Around 250 NATO Parliamentary Assembly members as well as around 60 parliamentarians representing associated non-member countries met over three days in Tirana at the Palace of Congresses. The meeting discussed international security and geopolitical concerns as preparation for the upcoming NATO Summit in Warsaw in July 2016.

It is the first time Albania hosts a session for the NATO Parliamentary Assembly since the country became a member alongside Croatia in 2009. The NATO Parliamentary Assembly is an inter-parliamentary structure that brings together members of parliaments from member and associated countries to discuss security issues.

Switzerland adheres to its principle of neutrality and is not a NATO member, however it has built a partnership for peace with the Euro-Atlantic organisation and cooperates actively especially in the area of civilian and humanitarian missions.
