Federal Council prioritises international cooperation and strengthens humanitarian aid

At its meeting on 24 June 2026, the Federal Council set out the key parameters for international cooperation from 2029. In future, Switzerland will focus its development cooperation in a more targeted manner, establish a clear division of responsibilities between the SDC and SECO, and strengthen its humanitarian aid. In doing so, it is responding to the altered geopolitical situation, enhancing the impact of its international cooperation and, at the same time, achieving savings for the federal budget. The budget for international cooperation remains virtually unchanged at around CHF 2.4 billion per year. The measures that have been adopted will result in an annual reduction of around CHF 20 million from 2027. The FDFA and the EAER were tasked with drafting a consultation document on the International Cooperation Strategy 2029–32 on this basis.

Ukraine Recovery Conference 2026: Switzerland reaffirms its commitment to reconstruction

Switzerland will be represented at the Ukraine Recovery Conference (URC) to be held in Gdańsk from 25 to 26 June by a delegation led by Jacques Gerber, the Federal Council’s Delegate for Ukraine. Launched in Lugano in 2022 at Switzerland’s initiative, the Conference has become the key international forum for the reconstruction of Ukraine. This year’s event will focus on the country’s economic recovery, support for critical infrastructure, strengthening security capabilities, and promoting reforms and the fight against corruption.

President Guy Parmelin greets participants of the Évian G7 Summit

Ahead of the G7 summit in Évian, President Guy Parmelin greeted arriving heads of state and government at Geneva Airport on Monday, 15 June. In addition to the G7 countries, numerous other countries are taking part in the summit. Over the course of the day, Mr Parmelin held lengthy talks with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and António Costa, President of the European Council, as well as with Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. Further bilateral talks are also planned.

Federal Councillor Ignazio Cassis to open OSCE security conference in Vienna

OSCE Chairman-in-Office Ignazio Cassis will travel to Vienna on 17 June 2026 to open the Annual Security Review Conference (ASRC). The event is a key part of the OSCE's work to promote dialogue on regional security issues. On the same day, Mr Cassis will also attend the Annual Council Meeting of the European Council on Foreign Relations (ECFR).

Federal Council approves adoption of joint declaration between Switzerland and Vietnam

On 12 June 2026 the Federal Council approved the adoption of a joint declaration setting out the foundations of a comprehensive partnership between Switzerland and the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, with a view to strengthening and formalising bilateral relations. The prospect of such a partnership had been the focus of high-level discussions on the margins of the World Economic Forum of 2025. Vietnam is one of Switzerland's priority partners in South East Asia, in accordance with the South East Asia Strategy 2023–26.

G7 summit in Évian: Switzerland commits to ensuring security

With just a few days to go before the G7 summit starts in Évian, representatives from the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA), the Swiss Armed Forces and the Federal Office for Customs and Border Security (FOCBS) joined cantonal authorities in Geneva to present the measures being taken to ensure the event's security and support the cantons involved: Geneva, Vaud and Valais. Organised by France, the summit will take place from 15 to 17 June 2026. On this occasion, President of the Swiss Confederation Guy Parmelin will welcome the heads of state and government of the participating countries to Geneva.

State Secretary Alexandre Fasel holds political consultations with France

On 10 June 2026 State Secretary of the FDFA Alexandre Fasel held political consultations in Bern with Secretary-General of the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs Martin Briens. Discussions covered bilateral relations, European policy issues and international developments.

2030 Agenda: Confederation, cantons, communes, business, academia and civil society discuss its effective implementation

How can the 2030 Agenda's Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) be effectively advanced in Switzerland? This question was the focus of an event held in Bern on 9 June 2026, organised by the FDFA's Prosperity and Sustainability Division, which included representatives from the cantons, communes, business, academia, civil society and the federal government. They had all contributed to Switzerland's country report on the 2030 Agenda, which was adopted by the Federal Council on 13 May 2026.

Federal Councillor Ignazio Cassis to travel to Berlin

Federal Councillor Ignazio Cassis, head of the FDFA, will be in Berlin on 9 and 10 June 2026. There he will meet the German foreign minister, Johann Wadephul, and research minister, Dorothee Bär, and attend the Soirée Suisse at the Swiss embassy.
