Switzerland marks 20th Anniversary of technical cooperation in Azerbaijan

On 1 March, Swiss Ambassador Philipp Stalder and Deputy Head of Mission/Head of International Cooperation Simone Haeberli jointly held a press conference to announce the launch of various activities to celebrate the 20 years of technical cooperation in Azerbaijan.

Ambassador Stalder briefed the journalists about the countries’ bilateral relations, the Embassy’s activities and the upcoming political and cultural events. He mentioned that just in December 2018, the Embassy opened its Facebook page, reaching 2 000 users within a couple of weeks, which can be seen as a great success. Mr. Stalder also said that Facebook is heavily used in Azerbaijan, thus, it is important for Switzerland to make use of this channel of communication. Additionally, he stated that freedom of expression in all countries and the free circulation of opinions and information are important for Switzerland. Then he informed about the upcoming political consultations between Azerbaijan and Switzerland, as well as Switzerland’s Regional Ambassadors’ Meeting in Baku. After announcing the 20th Anniversary of technical assistance of Switzerland in Azerbaijan, he gave the floor to Mrs. Simone Haeberli, who spoke about the projects of the development Cooperation of Switzerland in Azerbaijan and the goals for the upcoming years. Over the past 20 years 153 million Manat were invested and 81 projects successfully concluded. At the time being, the Swiss Cooperation office pursues 18 projects in Azerbaijan.
