The donor consortium will consist of DFID (UK), SDC and the newcomers CIDA (Canada) and the Netherlands. The Government counterpart remains the Ministry of Commerce. The project aim is to alleviate poverty and stimulate pro-poor growth by improving the competitiveness of selected sectors in which the poor participate as producers, employees and consumers. The project will continue working as a market facilitator and apply its successful approach of trial-learning-replication. It will become more pro poor in its focus and give high priority to issues of gender and social responsible business. It will emphasize capacity development of local actors and handing over to future market facilitators.
