Community based Disaster Risk Reduction Programme in Cyclone “Sidr” affected areas
The present Community Based Disaster Risk Reduction programme in Cyclone “Sidr” affected areas is the next step in bridging relief and Emergency Response activities to medium-term recovery and restoration, and finally towards longer-term preparedness and development. The programme aims at securing people’s physical inviolability, and restoring their livelihoods, across three components: 1) reconstruction and/or improvement of cyclone shelters (including setting up community based management of the installations), 2) strengthening of disaster awareness and preparedness in coastal communities (setting up the ability to react against natural calamities in preventive ways), and 3) strengthening the recovery of the rural production under a Disaster Risk Reduction perspective.
