Sarajevo is facing a key moment in its trajectory of urban growth and is in urgent need of innovative, integrated and sustainable approaches to urban development. At the same time, an overarching framework to orient urban development and planning is missing and therefore, the planning processes as well as the necessary capacities need to be improved. Urban planning also needs to better integrate aspects related to the environment (including air pollution) as well as climate change.

A multi-faceted four-year intervention will promote good urban planning practices as well as the coordination among all stakeholders of urban planning in Sarajevo. The capacities of the stakeholders will be further strengthened, benefiting also from the cooperation with the City of Zurich and the transfer of the state-of the-art knowwledge on urban planning by ETHZ.
