Contentwise, the new Agreement corresponds to other Social Security Agreements concluded by Switzerland. In principle, the agreements concluded with other successor countries of the former Yugoslavia are based on the same model. The Agreement complies with the international standards for the coordination of social security systems. It coordinates the retirement provisions, survivors’ and disability pension, the accident insurance, as well as the family allowances paid to farmers, in order to avoid possible disadvantages or discrimination of citizens of the contracting states. Furthermore, it contains a mutual assistance clause in the case of combating insurance fraud.

The relations between Switzerland and Bosnia and Herzegovina in the area of social security are currently still regulated by the Agreement on Social Security between the Swiss Confederation and the Federative People's Republic of Yugoslavia from 1962. This Agreement does already today offer the citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina the protection usually foreseen in social security agreements. However, it does not correspond to the current legislation of the contracting states anymore.

The Federal Department of Home Affairs shall now develop a dispatch for the attention of the Parliament. The new Social Security Agreement shall enter into force only after the Parliaments of both states have approved it.
