To celebrate the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Switzerland and China, “Absent Presence”, the first exhibition in China by the legendary Swiss photographer Henry Leutwyler, opened on November 1st 2025 at the IOMA Art Museum in Beihai, Guangxi.
Beneath Henry Leutwyler’s lens, the boundary between "absence" and "presence" fades softly. The Swiss photographic artist weaves thought-provoking visual narratives between Still Life and Portrait, frontstage and backstage, through his unique perspective and delicate sensibility.
This exhibition marks the global debut of Henry Leutwyler’s portrait series, featuring works from his Paris series (1985-1995) and New York series (1995-present) – a selection from four decades of creation. Henry Leutwyler’s portraits are distinctive: he delves beyond outward appearances to unearth inner temperament and emotion. Every gesture, expression, and unguarded movement in his frames seems to whisper untold tales.
