Swiss glass artist Simon Berger’s first ever large-scale exhibition in China opened on 1 November at the Winland Center in Hangzhou. Consul General Sacha Bachmann attended the opening, and was captivated as the artist demonstrated his unique technique in a live performance.

Berger is renowned for combining technical expertise, unique craftmanship and a distinctive visual language in his innovative glass-breaking art. Using safety glass as his canvas, Simon Berger skilfully shatters the surface with a hammer to create vivid portraits – a method he refers to as 'precision painting'.

His work has previously been exhibited at a number of distinguished art fairs, museums and galleries including the Venice Biennale and Art Basel.

For his show in China, Berger is initiating a cross-cultural dialogue by engaging with narratives from Chinese mythology – a wonderful initiative that fosters cultural exchange during this special Sino-Swiss Year of Culture and Tourism, as we celebrate 75 years of diplomatic relations between China and Switzerland.
