On 10th September, Shanghai’s riverside Grand Halls turned into a magnificent House of Switzerland for the Consulate General’s annual flagship event. The Swiss Night Reception attracted more than 300 Swiss business executives, guests and government leaders.
Switzerland and the People's Republic of China celebrate 75 years of diplomatic relations this year. Shanghai Vice Mayor Madam Liu Duo and Ambassador of Switzerland to China, Jürg Burri represented the governments of our two countries – a few days ahead of 14th September, which marks the 75th anniversary.
Swiss Night is, all at once, an appreciation event, an exclusive networking opportunity, a platform for solutions for your business challenges, and a shared way forward – with, for and by Team Switzerland in the Yangtze River Delta. In his keynote speech, Ambassador Burri paid tribute to “Switzerland’s good and intense relations with China”, as evidenced by recent high-level exchanges between Foreign Ministers Wang and Cassis, Parliamentary Leaders of both countries, and the visits of three Chinese Vice Premiers to Switzerland.
Ambassador Burri further emphasized the crucial role of the vibrant Swiss business community in Shanghai as well as the Sino-Swiss bilateral free trade agreement in fostering bilateral trade and investment.
Consul General Bachmann highlighted the excellent relations between Shanghai and Switzerland. Shanghai Mayor Gong Zheng visited Basel and Davos earlier this year. Swiss companies, especially from Shanghai’s sister city Basel, are among the top investors in Shanghai. The Chairmen of five Swiss multinational companies are members of the IBLAC Advisory Council for the Mayor of Shanghai and meet him annually in person.
Su Fu, President of Syngenta Group China, emphasized that Syngenta is testament to the enduring and thriving economic partnership between Switzerland and China. He said that strong and harmonious Sino-Swiss relations allow us to create a unique synergy, combining for instance Swiss precision and innovation with Chinese ambition and scale.
