Press releases, 14.03.2026

In celebration of the French language and as part of Mois de la francophonie (Francophonie Month), the Consulate General of Switzerland in Shanghai and Alliance Française jointly organised a screening of the film L’amour du monde (Longing for the World) at Alliance Française in Shanghai on 14 March 2026.

Consul General Sacha Bachmann delivered a warm welcome address and was delighted to join Guillaume Grangeon, Director Alliance Française Shanghai, for the screening.

Directed by the Swiss-Portuguese filmmaker Jenna Hasse on the beautiful shores of Lake Geneva, the film’s dreamlike story explores the concept of “l’envie d’ailleurs” (longing for a different, faraway place). The production is particularly notable for the standout performances of its young cast.

Director’s Note:

“This film grows from the land where I was raised—the shores of Lake Geneva. That sublime yet enclosed region, surrounded by mountains, reminded me of Charles-Ferdinand Ramuz's novel 'L'Amour du monde' (1928). In this region the three protagonists meet. They escape reality together and experience encounters with other people, nature and the landscape that surrounds them.”

The screening attracted a full house and was attended by members and friends of the Swiss community, as well as French language enthusiasts. It culminated in a lucky draw for Swiss souvenirs.
