Appointments: head of mission in Quito, assistant directors at the SDC and FOPH

A number of staff changes have been announced for the Swiss representation in Quito, the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs, and the Federal Office of Public Health of the Federal Department of Home Affairs. The changes will take place as part of the usual transfer rotation for 2017/18 and on the basis of appointments made by the Federal Council. In addition, the former deputy director general of the SDC, Thomas Greminger, has been appointed Secretary General of the OSCE. The appointment of head of mission in Quito becomes effective once the agrément of the receiving state has been given. The Federal Council has conferred the title of ambassador on the SDC and FOPH assistant directors.

Rita Hämmerli-Weschke, currently assistant director and head of Swiss Citizen Services at the Consular Directorate in Bern, has been appointed ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary to the Republic of Ecuador.

Ruth Huber, currently head of mission in Harare, has been appointed assistant director and head of the Department for Cooperation with Eastern Europe of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation, in Bern. To allow her to carry out this new function, the Federal Council has conferred on her the title of ambassador.

Thomas Gass, currently Assistant Secretary-General for Policy Coordination and Inter-Agency Affairs in the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs in New York, has been appointed assistant director and head of the South Cooperation Department of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation, in Bern. To allow him to carry out this new function, the Federal Council has conferred on him the title of ambassador.

Nora Kronig Romero, currently deputy head of the Multilateral Division and head of the Office of Specialised Institutions of the Permanent Mission of Switzerland to the United Nations and to the other international organisations in Geneva, has been appointed assistant director and head of the International Affairs Division of the Federal Office of Public Health (FOPH) within the Federal Department of Home Affairs, in Bern. To allow her to carry out this new function, the Federal Council has conferred on her the title of ambassador.
