Within the framework of the project, whose implementation is scheduled to take place over the next three years, the Estonian Forensic Science Institute will receive a computer tomograph, a magnetic resonance imaging device, an electron microscope, and other modern lab facilities. The goal is to facilitate criminal investigations and to accelerate judicial procedures.

In addition, training courses will be made available for Estonian specialists in forensic medicine and the Forensic Science Institute’s current data exchange system, which covers the whole of Estonia, will be modernized. This improvement will enable a more rapid exchange of forensic and crime-related data with other Estonian authorities, as well as with those of other Schengen countries.

The project agreement was signed by the Swiss Ambassador in Helsinki, Josef Bucher, the Secretary of State at the Estonian Ministry of Justice, Margus Sarapuu, as well as by the deputy Secretary of State at the Ministry of Finance, Ivar Sikk.
