The SDC has co-financed research projects in five countries within the framework of Switzerland's contribution to the enlarged EU, including a project in Hungary which developed innovative technologies for the blind and visually impaired. The Swiss-Hungarian project was completed in 2015. The SDC is delighted that research begun during this fixed-term project has gone on to earn international recognition: Professor Botond Roska has been awarded the 2019 Louis-Jeantet Prize for Medicine for the discovery of the basic principles of visual information processing and the development of therapeutic strategies to restore vision in people with retinal disorders.

A research team in Hungary working on a Swiss-Hungarian research project has developed innovative technologies for the blind and visually impaired. Research continued in Hungary and Switzerland following the completion of the project in 2015, leading to successful results in both countries in the beginning of 2019: Hungary successfully launched an app for the visually impaired and in Switzerland Professor Botond Roska was awarded the Louis-Jeantet Prize for Medicine.
