• Currently,Egypt hosts more than 1.5 million Sudanese Refugees, 1.07 million registered by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). • An estimate of over 100’000 Sudanese refugees live in Aswan, of which 16’679 are registered with UNHCR. • Arrivals of refugees displaced by recent violence in El Fasher has been recorded in both Aswan and Cairo. • With no presence of UNHCR in the south, refugees are forced to travel to Cairo for registration, leading to increased vulnerability and risk of deportation. • Access to public services such as hospitals and schools is restricted to foreigners (including refugees) with valid residency. Attaining residency takes up to 36 months. • 58% of Sudanese refugees identify health as a top need and 50% cannot meet their health needs. • 81% of Sudanese refugees face financial barriers to accessing healthcare. • 96% of caregivers in Aswan are unable to meet their children’s basic needs. • Only 30% of school aged children are in school. |
