• Currently,Egypt hosts more than 1.5 million Sudanese Refugees, 1.07 million registered by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).

• An estimate of over 100’000 Sudanese refugees live in Aswan, of which 16’679 are registered with UNHCR.

• Arrivals of refugees displaced by recent violence in El Fasher has been recorded in both Aswan and Cairo.

• With no presence of UNHCR in the south, refugees are forced to travel to Cairo for registration, leading to increased vulnerability and risk of deportation.

• Access to public services such as hospitals and schools is restricted to foreigners (including refugees) with valid residency. Attaining residency takes up to 36 months.

• 58% of Sudanese refugees identify health as a top need and 50% cannot meet their health needs.

• 81% of Sudanese refugees face financial barriers to accessing healthcare.

• 96% of caregivers in Aswan are unable to meet their children’s basic needs.

• Only 30% of school aged children are in school.

Outcome 1: Displaced boys, girls, and caregivers affected by prolonged and recent conflicts have access to integrated, timely and quality Child protection (CP) and Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) services appropriate to the best interest of the child.

Outcome 2: Enhanced access to improved gender responsive education and safe learning opportunities for displaced Sudanese and host community children.

Outcome 3: Displaced Sudanese and host community women, men, and youth are equipped to transition into dignified livelihoods through enhanced skills, entrepreneurship opportunities, wage placements, and continuous coaching support.

Outcome 4: Sudanese refugees, including recent arrivals from El-Fasher, in remote and underserved areas have improved, safe, and timely access to essential primary healthcare, emergency nutrition, mental health and diagnostic services.

Outcome 5: Displaced Unaccompanied and Separated Children (UASC) are protected and empowered through access to basic services, mentorship, strengthened community capacity, and responsive policies.

1.4: Individual and group-based MHPSS services provided to forcibly displaced children and caregivers facing distress.

2.3: Out of school refugee and migrant children have access to intensive education programmes to enable them to transition to public or community education pathways.

2.6: Refugee and Egyptian students in Community Learning Centers (CLCs) are engaged in development, and/or social activities that foster social acceptance and cohesion.

3.5: Multi-Purpose Cash, winterization assistance and one-time for legalization of the refugee status (registration at UNHCR/residency permit) provided to the most vulnerable displaced Sudanese household and/or youth to meet basic needs.

4.1: Emergency nutrition screening and rapid nutritional support provided to newly arrived crisis-affected children and women, including mid-upper arm circumference (MUAC) screening, distribution of ready-to-use therapeutic and supplementary foods, targeted Cash-for-Nutrition assistance, and referral for severe acute malnutrition.

4.3: Essential mental health, and Gender Based Violence (GBV) related support made accessible in Aswan through strengthening local provider capacity, deploying visiting specialists, and establishing confidential survivor-centered referral pathways

5.6: Community Based Organizations (CBOs) provided with knowledge and capacity to deal with children on-the-move. 

5.11: Public healthcare partners are equipped to deliver services to UASCs.
