On 29.04.2020 , the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA) together with the Embassy of Switzerland in Accra successfully concluded an operation to return Swiss citizens and residents of Switzerland stranded in Ghana, back home. This is so far the last of 35 humanitarian repatriation flights organized by the Swiss government.

Bern, 24.04.2020 - A flight from India scheduled for tomorrow and one from Africa next week will conclude the largest repatriation operation ever mounted by the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA). The main focus is now on providing support for Swiss citizens who, for a variety of reasons, have been unable or unwilling to return to Switzerland.

The Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) is contributing financially and with relief supplies to help overcome the global COVID-19 pandemic. To this end, it is adapting existing programmes by redirecting CHF 56 million of funding. The SDC has also transferred CHF 18 million to international organisations. It continues to deliver relief supplies to affected countries, including protective suits which were dispatched to Italy on 8 April 2020

At the end of 2019, more than one in ten Swiss nationals lived abroad. Almost two thirds lived in Europe, notably in France. Their number continued to increase, both among the young and old. Overall, the share of women remained greater than that of men, according to the results of the statistics on the Swiss abroad from the Federal Statistical Office (FSO).
Switzerland to contribute to capital increases at the World Bank Group and African Development Bank

Switzerland intends to contribute CHF 297 million to capital increases at the World Bank Group WBG and the African Development Bank AfDB. The Federal Council adopted the relevant dispatch on 19 February 2020. The WBG and the AfDB are priority multilateral organisations in terms of Switzerland’s international cooperation, and are key actors in implementing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, particularly with regard to tackling poverty. They support developing countries by granting loans and providing technical assistance.
Swiss travellers abroad should register on the "Travel Admin App”

The sustainable use of natural resources will be at the heart of debates at the first World Resources Forum for Africa (WRF2020), which has today been officially announced by the Honourable Minister H.E. Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng at the Swiss Embassy in Accra. WRF2020 will be hosted by the Ministry for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation (MESTI) on 23-25 June 2020 at the Accra international Conference Center, Ghana. In combination with the announcement of WRF2020, the second phase of the Sustainable Recycling Industries project has been launched, both initiatives being strongly supported by the Swiss Government.
