On September 10, staff of the Embassy attended the official inauguration of a 360 kWp solar panel system at the Swiss company HPW Fresh & Dry Ltd factory located close to Adeiso. The company, which is specialized in the production of dried fruit destined for export, aims with the new installation to reach a maximum level of sustainable energy consumption for its activities as it already partly operates on biogas and biomass heat. Employing more than 750 permanent employees on its site and processing 20,000 tons of fruits a year, HPW is the largest dried fruit factory in West Africa.

The inauguration was attended by the constructer of the solar system (BeBa Africa), the local solar partner in Ghana (Tino Solutions Limited), the media, representatives of the German Development cooperation Office (GIZ) and the German Chamber of Commerce. During the official ceremony, the Deputy Head of Cooperation of the Swiss Embassy, Ms. Anne Schick, expressed the Embassy’s pride in having an exemplary Swiss-company leading the way towards sustainability. In particular she highlighted the triple-bottom line benefits of going green by lessening the environmental impact, creating jobs and better living conditions for the local community, while reducing the running costs of the company.
