Human Rights Support Program
Human Rights (HR) promotion and protection in Honduras does not live up to international standards nor does it comply with commitments as shown for example by the 2010 Universal Periodic review of the HR council. Reducing HR violations including the killing of journalists, lawyers or farmer representatives is imperative and strongly demanded by the international community. The Program supports capacity development of state and non state actors as well as policy development.

| Background |
Since the Coup d’Etat of 2009 the dismal human rights situation has not improved much. Violence, impunity, discrimination and inequity are the underlying reasons. Acting upon recommendations to improve HR protection (Truth commission, special UN rapporteurs) is pending. Lacking capacities and competences and above all limited political will are the main obstacles. |
