The opening conference of the ‘Geothermal energy resources for district heating’ programme was successfully organised in Tiszaújváros on 7-8 November 2024, with the participation of the representatives of the beneficiary organisations of the selected Programme Components. The event provided an opportunity for the celebration of the second anniversary of the signing of the Framework Agreement of the Swiss-Hungarian Cooperation Programme as well.
The Swiss support will actively contribute to the sustainable development of Hungary, in order to improve the quality of the environment and the well-being of the society by reducing greenhouse gas emissions and the use of fossil fuels. By increasing the share of renewable, domestically produced geothermal energy sources in existing heating networks and by connecting public buildings in the heating systems the Programme also aims to demonstrate social responsibility. The direct involvement of the civil society organisations at the local level is expected to have an added value in terms of awareness-raising and the acceptance of geothermal energy among the local population.
It is important to note that half of the total funding has been allocated to underdeveloped regions and the implementation of the Programme Components can now be started. Thanking the National Coordination Unit and the Széchenyi Prorgamme Office for the organisation and the experts for their valuable contribution, we wish a successful implementation to all the winning applicants!
