Founded in 1962 and performing on stage without a conductor, Camerata Bern is a leading formation in Swiss music life. The orchestra was just in its fourth year when Sándor Veress wrote a work for them in which he sought a harmonic synthesis of 20th century modernity and the Bach heritage. Patricia Kopatchinskaja, Carolin Widmann and Kolja Blacher, leading violinists of our day, regularly play the role of concertmaster at Camerata Bern concerts. Over the last eight years Antje Weithaas has greatly influenced the work of the ensemble as artistic director. Soloist of the two concertos is Balázs Fülei, who joins the imposing list of guest artists of the Berne orchestra including, among others, Vadim Repin, Heinz Holliger, Jean-Pierre Rampal, Maurice André, Jörg Widmann, Gidon Kremer and Radu Lupu.
Lately, Camerata Bern has performed among others at the Konzerthaus Berlin, Zuiderstrandtheater in The Hague, De Oosterpoort Groningen, Palacio de Bellas Artes in Mexico, Teatro Carlo Felice in Genova, Teatro Nacional in Panama, Cervantino Festival in Guanajuato/Mexico, Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires, in the Sala Sao Paulo, deSingel International Kunstcampus in Antwerp, at Geneva’s Victoria Hall and in the Tonhalle in Zürich.
