This visit to New Delhi comes just after the President of the Swiss Confederation, Johann Schneider-Ammann, received the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, on 6 June in Geneva. Moreover, it follows up on the visit of a high-level Indian delegation, which State Secretary Jacques de Watteville received in Bern in October 2014.
Describing today's talks as constructive, the two parties signed a joint declaration which underlines the good cooperation between Switzerland and India in tax matters and which reiterates the willingness of the two countries to combat tax evasion and fraud. State Secretary Jacques de Watteville also met the Secretary of the Department of Economic Affairs, Shaktikanta Das, in the context of the third round of financial dialogue started between Switzerland and India in 2013.
