President Doris Leuthard to pay a presidential visit to India

Ms Doris Leuthard will pay a presidential visit to India on 31 August and 1 September. On the agenda are talks with President Ram Nath Kovind, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and a number of other ministers. President Leuthard will also be attending a number of business events and will take part in celebrations marking the 70th anniversary of the Treaty of Friendship between Switzerland and India. The aim of the visit is to further deepen the close cooperation that already exists in many areas. President Leuthard was invited to pay a state visit to the Republic of India.

Third Media Workshop on Climate Change Reporting in the Indian Himalayas

A three-day media workshop to encourage accurate reporting of climate change impacts and adaptation measures in North-East India was held from 25-27 March 2017 in Gangtok, Sikkim. The workshop was inaugurated by Ms. Janine Kuriger, Head Swiss Cooperation Office and Counsellor, Embassy of Switzerland in India, in the presence of Mr. D.C. Sharma, Senior Science and Environment Journalist; Ms. Annu Anand, Head Advocacy, Center for Media Studies (CMS); and Dr. Surajit Baruah, State Project Manager, Sikkim, Strengthening State Strategies for Climate Change Adaptation (3SCA). The valedictory address was delivered by Mr. Prem Das Rai, Member of Parliament from Sikkim.


SDC organises a workshop on resilience through risk transfer and microinsurance

A workshop on “Resilience through Risk Transfer and Microinsurance” was held in New Delhi. The workshop examined how access to innovative insurance solutions along with value added services can protect smallholder farmers against losses due to climate variability and change. The workshop was organised as part of the “Climate Resilience through Risk Transfer” (RES-RISK) project of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC).

A multi-year cooperation project for Capacity Building for Low Carbon and Climate Resilient City Development (CapaCITIES) was officially launched in Udaipur. Under the project, which is financed by the Swiss Agency of Development and Cooperation (SDC), technical assistance in the areas of city planning, solid waste management, sewage treatment, water availability, building energy efficiency and mobility will be provided to the cities of Coimbatore (Tamil Nadu), Rajkot (Gujarat), Siliguri (West Bengal) and Udaipur (Rajasthan).
