Following the use of chemical weapons in Syria, which constitutes a war crime that Switzerland condemns in the strongest terms possible, Switzerland calls for a concerted and rapid response by the Security Council and to avoid a military escalation.

Switzerland also reiterates its call on the parties to the conflict, and in particular the Syrian government, to grant the Commission of Inquiry and other international fact-finding bodies access to Syrian territory.

Switzerland favours a political solution to the Syrian crisis. It will continue to support the efforts for joint dialogue of Special Envoy Staffan de Mistura under the aegis of the United Nations, as well as the intra-Syrian dialogue.
