Sustainable Public Transport in Indonesia (formerly INDOBUS), Phase II


The Sustainable Public Transport Project in Indonesia (INDOBUS), Phase II, managed by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) contributes to Indonesia's economic development by supporting sustainable, public transport solutions on the local level in selected cities or metropolitan regions.

Contesto

By 2045, Indonesia aims to realise its vision of a ‘Golden Indonesia’ (‘Indonesia Emas’) to develop into a global economic power and achieve a high level of income. To achieve this goal, Indonesia must pursue strong, inclusive and sustainable economic growth, including the deployment of modern and resource-efficient public transport systems. Economic development and urbanisation are causing, an increasing demand for mobility and growing prosperity is leading to higher quality requirements for means of transport. This leads to overcrowded roads and traffic-related air and noise emissions, which are associated with economic damage.

Obiettivi

The institutional and financial framework conditions for attractive and competitive local public transport in Indonesian urban and metropolitan regions have improved for stakeholders from the private sector and public institutions.

Effetti a medio termine

1.) Three urban or metropolitan regions that, together with local transport companies, have initiated the strategic development towards an integrated, attractive, competitive, gender-equitable and inclusive local public transport service.

2.) At least fifteen of employees of public administration or transport companies from five urban or metropolitan regions have applied the knowledge packages developed by the project in their region.

3.) Fife agreements are set, by which different transport companies, local authorities and organisations have agreed to integrate public transport services in the pilot city or region.

4.) Strategies for the long-term sustainable financing and organisation of local public transport have been developed.

2.) Access to knowledge packages and exchange formats for modern, inclusive, gender-sensitive and decarbonised public transport has been strengthened.

4.) Strategies for the long-term sustainable financing and organisation of local public transport have been developed.

Previous phases results

The 1st phase of INDOBUS assisted cities in developing Bus Rapid Transport (BRT) corridors as a backbone for sustainable urban mobility systems. INDOBUS worked on three key components:

1.) The development of BRT corridors, including the link with the wider urban mobility system.

2.) Improvement of public transport management for the BRTs, including definition of roles and responsibilities between local and national levels in the planning and construction phase.

3.) Development of urban transport policies, which have been specified at the national level with the Ministry of Planning (BAPPENAS) and the Ministry of Transport (MOT) with regard to the implementation of BRTs.
