Organized by the Embassy of Switzerland in Japan, the first edition of “Swiss Culture Talk” dedicated to design, art, education and the creative economy was held at the SHIBAURA HOUSE in Tokyo on March 6, 2018. More specifically, ECAL, a top-ranked Swiss university that is internationally renowned in the fields of design, photography, graphic design, film, new technology, and art, was at the center of all discussions. Two of its representatives were invited for the occasion: ECAL Director Mr. Alexis Georgacopoulos and Swiss artist and also ECAL graduate Ms. Manon Wertenbroek.

After an opening address by Mr. Jonas Pulver, Head of Culture and Public Affairs at the Embassy of Switzerland, Ms. Wertenbroek captivated the audience with a presentation on mirror-bodies and the honesty of images. She also took the time to promote her latest creations, which were exposed at the Art Fair Tokyo later that week. Mr. Georgacopoulos then took the floor to detail the history and future prospects of ECAL’s creative identity in Switzerland and abroad. These presentations were concluded by a Q&A session. Simultaneous interpretation was provided to all participants with the help of individual audio devices.

Last but not least, the evening reception that followed was opened by a toast by Mr. Pierre Keller (former ECAL Director, Officier de l'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres, and President of the Office des vins Vaudois), who offered the guests a personal selection of Swiss fine wines from Lavaux Vineyard Terraces.
