This project, which is funded by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), with total amount of 120’000 JOD representing 88% of the total budget, aims to assess the impact of the landfills on the groundwater and map the vulnerability of aquifers to contamination at several landfill sites. The mapping will help support decision-makers responsible for the solid waste management in the country to make better decisions in the field of underground water management.
Given the vital role played by the Ministry of Municipal Affairs in solid waste management, this Ministry will be a key partner in this project which is also expected to positively impact the performance and effectiveness of all concerned municipalities.
The RSS is the largest applied research institution, consultancy and technical support service provider in Jordan and is a regional leader in the fields of science & technology.
Among its priority fields of action in Jordan, SDC focuses on the water sector where it aims to link sustainable water resource management with equitable access to water and sanitation services. SDC is also supporting Jordan to deal with the impacts of the Syrian crisis with an overall contribution of 20 million JOD in 2016.
