WHO, Medical Evacuation and Treat-ment of Children from Gaza in Jordan
With this project, Switzerland, in partnership with WHO, supports medical evacuations and the provison of medical care for children from Gaza under King Abdullah II’s “Royal Initiative for the Medical Treatment of Children”. Children with severe conditions that cannot be treated in Gaza will receive holistic medical and psychosocial support in Jordan. The contribution is part of the Federal Council’s decision from 26 November 2025 to grant CHF 23 million to support the “Gaza Peace Plan” of the United States.

| Contexte | Despite progressive improvements since the 10 October 2025 ceasefire, the health system in the Gaza Strip remains in a dire state. The massive disruption in the health system due to repeated attacks on health facilities at all levels, loss of medical professionals and severe supply chains restrictions make it impossible for at least 16,500 people, including nearly 4,000 children, who require urgent specialized medical care to be treated in Gaza according to the United Nations1. Since the outbreak of the Gaza crisis, Jordan has played a pivotal role in delivering humanitarian aid to the population of the Gaza Strip, addressing critical medical and humanitarian needs amid the ongoing conflict. This includes medical evacuations and treatment, the establishment of an air corridor for medical supplies, the delivery of humanitarian goods via the Jordan corridor, and diplomatic actions and advocacy. Building on its proven expertise in supporting Jordan with medical evacuations and a longstanding close working relationship with health authorities, WHO is well placed to carry out this planned intervention. |
| Objectifs | Support Jordan in medical evacuations and provision of treatment to decrease avoidable morbidity and mortality among patients from Gaza by offering them advanced medical care in Jordan. |
| Groupes cibles | The programme will provide direct support to 75 children from Gaza with severe medical conditions that cannot be treated there, and approximately 150 accompanying family members (average of two per patient depending on the situation) will receive mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS), accommodation, food and a basic needs kit. The duration of treatment will vary greatly based on the medical condition but is expected to last two months on average. |

Outcome 1: Safe evacuation and provision of specialized medical treatment for children from Gaza. Outcome 2: Provision of essential, dignified basic services and psychosocial support to patients, caregivers and companions during the treatment and recovery period. |

Jordan Hashemite Charity Organization (JHCO): Implements activities related to the Jordan Humanitarian Corridor. As part of its support to Jordan for Gaza, Switzerland will also provide funding to JHCO to strengthen their delivery capacity through the Jordan Humanitarian Corridor. Jordanian Ministry of Health (MoH): is the infinal responsibility for the selection of patients. Private hospital(s) : will be contracted by WHO to provide medical care for children. Medecins sans Frontières (MSF): has also been facilitating Medevacs trough Jordan and treats Gaza patients in their hospitals in Amman. Other donors: this intervention will be closely coordinated with the Governments of Italy (Italian Agency for International Cooperation – AICS) and the Netherlands. |
