| Contesto |
Through its location in the hearth of the Near East, Jordan has played an important part in accommodating refugees from the region?s conflicts, including 1.7 million Palestinians and more recently over 1.4 million Syrians and Iraqis. The humanitarian crises of the Near East and the related strong growth of Jordan's resident population put the health sector under pressure. The project uses a remaining part of the Swiss-Jordanian Mixed Financing Line II established in 2002 to finance much needed investments in the emergency rescue infrastructure of Jordan Civil Defense. |
| Obiettivi |
The objective of the project is to improve the emergency medical services provided to the population of Jordan by the ambulance services of the Jordanian General Directorate of Civil Defense. The project is articulated around three components. The first component consisting of the procurement of 143 paramedical ambulances including 4x2, 4x4 and specially equipped vehicles for use in refugee camps, will complete the replacement of basic ambulances with modern paramedical ambulances in Jordan. The second component consisting of training on ambulances and equipment and training along the rescue chain will improve the quality of rescue and ambulance services of Jordan Civil Defense. The third component is a comprehensive quality assurance system and will allow to continuously track and improve service quality. |
| Effetti a medio termine |
The project will enable the ambulance services of Jordan Civil Defense to respond appropriately to increased emergency needs. By integrating prevention measures and making Jordan Civil Defense an example, the project will also help reducing casualties and thus make scarce emergency resources more available to the overall Jordanian population and in particular to inhabitants of refugee camps. |
| Risultati |
Risultati principali attesi: The quality of ambulance transports and the emergency medical attention will be improved thanks to the availability of (143) more paramedical ambulances and the improved level of training of paramedical personnel. The quality of rescue services, including response times and collaboration along the emergency intervention chain, will be monitored and continuously improved through a comprehensive quality assurance system. The Jordanian population will be sensitized to risky activities and preventive measures through awareness campaigns and the role example played by therefore trained Jordan Civil Defense staff. |
