In line with the Good Humanitarian Donorship (GHD) principles, Switzerland recognizes the necessity of predictable and flexible funding to respond to changing needs in humanitarian crises. SDC funding to ICRC operations allows the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) to respond proactively and to provide immediate protection and assistance for people affected by armed conflict and other situations of violence.

2011 brach die Syrien-Krise aus, die heute zu den schlimmsten humanitären Katastrophen zählt, die die Welt seit dem Ende des Zweiten Weltkriegs erlebt hat. Das IKRK ist eine der wenigen internationalen Organisationen, die im Landesinnern Hilfseinsätze leisten können. Die DEZA arbeitet mit dem IKRK zusammen, was die Lieferung von Nahrungsmitteln sowie den Zugang zu Wasser und medizinischer Versorgung von Millionen von Syrerinnen und Syrern betrifft, die Opfer dieses Konflikts wurden.

Decent work for migrants in the Middle East

The Middle East attracts high numbers of migrants from South/South East Asia. While migrants constitute an important contribution to the Gulf State economies and the development of their countries of origin, they remain vulnerable to exploitation and abuse along the migration chain. This programme builds on gains made during its first phase and seeks to improve legal frameworks and their implementation in favour of decent work conditions for migrants. The approach combines operational support to migrants, capacity building of national and civil society actors with regional and global policy dialogue efforts.

Improved Government Response to Crisis and Major Civilian Operations

Lebanon is facing political instability, tremendous security concerns, and a refugee crisis, in addition to being vulnerable to natural hazards and water scarcity. The Lebanese Government is requesting continued support to improve its emergency, preparedness and response to man-made and natural disasters and crisis. Based on DRR achievements to date, SDC through UNDP will support the capacities of the Government in fulfilling remaining interventions stipulated in the National Response Plan, at the i) National level - Mobile Operation Room (MOR) and field assessment team ii) Sectoral level - risk assessment, response plans and crisis management cell at Ministry of Energy and Water, Public Works and Transportation and Telecommunication, and iii) Local level - capacity building of three regional governorates and three districts.

Sanierung von Schulen im Nordlibanon

Nach der Sanierung der 13 ersten Schulen im Nordlibanon hat die DEZA mit der Instandsetzung von 15 weiteren Schulen in der Region begonnen. Dank der in Zusammenarbeit mit den libanesischen Behörden durchgeführten Arbeiten ist der Libanon gewappnet für den massiven Zustrom von Flüchtlingskindern aus Syrien.

The ongoing violence in Syria has lead to the displacement of millions of civilians. As of September 2013, an estimated 4.25 million people are internally displaced inside Syria and 2 million people are registered or waiting for their registration with UNHCR in neighbouring Jordan, Turkey, Lebanon, Iraq and Egypt.

Direct Action: Support to Families and Communities Hosting Syrian Refugees Phase III [PRO]

Protective host shelter environment for 27’000 Syrian refugees is provided for 6 months through support to 3,200 Lebanese families hosting Syrian refugees in Akkar Region (Wadi Khaled and Akroum areas). This project will be implemented through a SDC direct action cash modality and in partnership with a local NGO, Mada Association; in close coordination with Lebanese local authorities of affected municipalities and communities, INGOs working in the area and UNHCR.
