New Swiss consuls general

The Federal Department of Foreign Affairs announces the following nominations:

Martin Bienz, consul general in Guangzhou. He will succeed Didier Boschung in summer 2018.

Martin Bienz was born in 1959, place of origin Hasle, canton of Lucerne. He joined the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA) in 1981 and was posted to Marseilles, Addis Ababa, Bogotá, Osaka and Ottawa, followed by a secondment to the Federal Department of Justice and Police (FDJP). Mr Bienz then returned to the FDFA where he was posted to Manila, Karachi  and Chicago.
He has been the head of post in Mumbai since October 2014.

Othmar Hardegger, consul general in Mumbai. He will succeed Martin Bienz in summer 2018.

Othmar Hardegger was born in 1963, place of origin Gams, canton of St Gallen. He joined the FDFA in 1981 and was posted to Rome, Tehran, New York, Ottawa, Dresden, Bonn, Jeddah, Prague, Frankfurt and Bern. In 2009 he became head of the Financial Planning section and deputy head of FDFA Finance at  the Directorate for Resources in Bern.
Mr Hardegger has been the head of post in Ho Chi Minh City since 2014.

Martin Maier, consul general in Ho Chi Minh City. He will succeed Othmar Hardegger in summer 2018.

Martin Maier was born in 1965, place of origin Solothurn, canton of Solothurn. He joined the FDFA in 1981 and was posted to Rome, Tehran, New York, Ottawa, Dresden, Bonn, Jeddah, Prague, Frankfurt and Bern.
Mr Maier has been the head of the Foreign Interests’ section within the framework of the Swiss protecting power mandate for the US since 2014.

Olivier Zehnder, consul general in Shanghai. He will succeed Alexander Hoffet in summer 2018.

Olivier Zehnder was born in 1966, place of origin Köniz, canton of Bern. He joined the FDFA in 1998 and was posted to Vienna, Brasilia and Bern. Between 2010 and 2013 he was seconded to the Permanent Mission of Switzerland to the UN Office and to the other international organisations in Vienna as deputy permanent representative.
 
Mr Zehnder has been the deputy permanent representative at the Permanent Mission of Switzerland to the United Nations in New York since January 2014.
