Please note that the Malaysian authorities are constantly updating COVID requirements. It is essential to check the latest information. For this purpose, you should refer to official portals of the Malaysian authorities. Find out about the Standard Operating Procedures ("SOP") on the National Security Council website. Keep up to date with the latest developments, follow the guidelines of the national authorities as well as the rules of the individual states and follow their instructions.
A nationwide state of emergency in Malaysia has been proclaimed by the King from 12 January until 1 August 2021.
In response to the Covid-19 activity, the Malaysian authorities announced that the conditional movement control order (CMCO) will apply to Kedah, Penang, Perak, Kelantan, Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, Negri Sembilan, Johor and Sarawak until 18 March 2021.
Perlis, Terengganu, Pahang, Putrajaya, Melaka, Labuan and Sabah will be placed under the recovery movement control order (RMCO).
Nonessential inter-state travel is prohibited nationwide. Inter-district within a state will be allowed except Sabah. Movement between Selangor and Kuala Lumpur is permitted but a police permission required to travel for non-professional reasons to Putrajaya.
Most foreigners remain banned from entering Malaysia; exemptions are in place for resident diplomats, foreign spouses and dependents of Malaysian citizens, long-term pass holders, and expatriate employees working in essential industries and their dependents, among others. Please consult the competent Malaysian authorities.
