Urgent message from the Embassy of Switzerland in Malaysia

Dear traveller,

Please be aware of only few remaining international flight connections out of KLIA (Kuala Lumpur International Airport) today 23.3. and possibly tomorrow 24.3.2020. Hereafter, exiting if still possible becomes highly complex. Check flight status and/or contact airlines for immediate booking.

The Swiss Federal Council urged Swiss travellers to head back home without delay.

Dear Swiss citizens,

Thank you for consulting our website. We hope you are well. Further to the Prime Minister’s address on 25.03.2020, the Movement Control Order in Malaysia to combat Covid-19 will be extended to 14.04.2020. Please stay updated, cooperate and follow the instructions of individual states and national authorities.

As of 18 March 2020, all foreigners are prohibited to enter Malaysia until 14 April 2020. For all residents, restrictions of movement apply.

Please find herewith a set of FAQ released by the Malaysian National Security Council.

In accordance to the measures taken by the Malaysian authorities, the operation of the Embassy of Switzerland in Kuala Lumpur are restricted until 14 April 2020.

Regarding the Covid-19 public and health related issues, kindly consult the information and directives of the local authorities as well as the recommendation of the World Health Organisation WHO.

For consular related inquiries (e.g. issues regarding passports, visas, authentication of documents etc), please contact the Regional Consulate in Bangkok, Thailand at +66 2674 6900.

Please also note that on 16 March 2020, the Swiss government (Federal Council) called on Swiss travellers to return to Switzerland. Swiss tourists are recommended to contact the airline for information concerning the return journey to Switzerland.

If you are Swiss and travelling abroad, register now on the "Travel Admin App". This will enable the FDFA to provide you with better support on your return journey. App available with IOS and Android.

VAT Tax claims

The Consular Section of the Embassy of Switzerland in Kuala Lumpur has been moved to the Regional Consular Centre Bangkok, Thailand. Therefore, the Embassy of Switzerland in Kuala Lumpur is no longer recognised as office abroad to confirm the exportation in tourist traffic for shop sales ("tax-free for tourists").
