Ambassador of Switzerland to Ukraine and Moldova Guillaume Scheurer, based in Kiev, took an official visit to Chisinau on 13-14 March. He met the Foreign Minister, Tudor Ulianovschi, the head of Central Election Commission, Alina Russu, representatives of political forces, members of the civil society and diplomatic community.

First Community Mental Health Centre Using FACT Officially Launched in Moldova

The Community Mental Health Centre in Cimislia, district capital in central Moldova, was officially launched on 15 September. The institution operates using a modern methodology and plays a central role within the new organization of mental health services in the district. It is the first of the four community-based mental health centres that will be opened until 2018 in Orhei, Cahul and Soroca in the frame of the project “Support to the Reform of Mental Health Services in Moldova” financed by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation SDC.

A Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection and the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) was signed in Chisinau on September 17, 2024, in the context of the 5th Ministerial Conference of the Moldova Partnership Platform. The main aim of the document is to ensure the successful implementation of the Project entitled "Strengthening Peace and Economic Prosperity through Women's Leadership and Inclusion (Women for Peace and Prosperity)", which will run from 2024-2028. Iacob is one of 78,000 mental health patients in Moldova who got a second chance in life without being stigmatised.

Eight years ago, after his military service, Iacob would stop sleeping. He was back in his small village, but acted strangely, aggressively. He was admitted with schizophrenia to the state psychic ward.

The village of Dezghingea from the autonomous administrative-territorial unit (ATU) of Gagauzia and the village of Cenac from Cimislia district seem to have little in common, except maybe for the 8 km long white stone road that connects them. Dezghingea is home to over 4,000 people and 1,400 households, with about 94% of the population identifying as Gagauz, according to the latest census. Cenac is almost three times smaller, with a population of around 1,600 people and some 500 households, and 98% of its residents identify as either Romanian or Moldovan. The inhabitants of the two villages have opposing political and geopolitical preferences.
