First Community Mental Health Centre Using FACT Officially Launched in Moldova

The Community Mental Health Centre in Cimislia, district capital in central Moldova, was officially launched on 15 September. The institution operates using a modern methodology and plays a central role within the new organization of mental health services in the district. It is the first of the four community-based mental health centres that will be opened until 2018 in Orhei, Cahul and Soroca in the frame of the project “Support to the Reform of Mental Health Services in Moldova” financed by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation SDC.

Switzerland launches Cooperation Programme for Moldova 2025-2028 with a budget of 104 million Swiss Francs

Chisinau, 10 April 2024 - Switzerland has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the Republic of Moldova by officially launching its 2025-2028 Cooperation Programme. The 4-year programme has a total budget of 104 million Swiss Francs (CHF), equivalent to almost 2.1 billion Moldovan Lei. The annual budget of this new Cooperation Programme will continue to be more than twice as high as before the start of the war in Ukraine.

Switzerland is contributing a total of 8.3 million CHF (167 million MDL) to support this initiative, allocating 5.5 million CHF to the World Bank and 2.8 million CHF to the World Health Organization. The first phase of the project will last until September 2028.

A Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection and the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) was signed in Chisinau on September 17, 2024, in the context of the 5th Ministerial Conference of the Moldova Partnership Platform. The main aim of the document is to ensure the successful implementation of the Project entitled "Strengthening Peace and Economic Prosperity through Women's Leadership and Inclusion (Women for Peace and Prosperity)", which will run from 2024-2028. Switzerland is contributing to this initiative with CHF 8 million. The Project will be implemented by UN Women and the ILO, in collaboration with the relevant institutions in Moldova.

The village of Dezghingea from the autonomous administrative-territorial unit (ATU) of Gagauzia and the village of Cenac from Cimislia district seem to have little in common, except maybe for the 8 km long white stone road that connects them. Dezghingea is home to over 4,000 people and 1,400 households, with about 94% of the population identifying as Gagauz, according to the latest census. Cenac is almost three times smaller, with a population of around 1,600 people and some 500 households, and 98% of its residents identify as either Romanian or Moldovan. The inhabitants of the two villages have opposing political and geopolitical preferences.

The war in Ukraine affects the daily life of Moldovans in many ways.
