Rehabilitation of the water supply system in the municipalities of Nisporeni, Varzaresti and Grozesti in Moldova
Provision of safe drinking water and decent sanitation is one of the greatest challenges Moldova faces. A consortium of three donors (EU, Austrian Development Agency (ADA), and the Swiss Development Agency (SDC)) with local financial and operational support will establish an effectively functioning water supply system in one of the most deprived districts of Moldova as well as provide technical options for improved sanitation measures. This will result in access to safe drinking water for the households of three municipalities (Nisporeni, Varzaresti and Grozesti), increasing also their quality of life and public health.

| Contesto |
Access to potable water and sanitation services is dismal. Most of the rural population gets water from surface sources prone to pollution. Nisporeni is one of the most disadvantaged districts of Moldova regarding water quality and availability. Drinking water and sanitation is one of the two priority sectors of SDC in Moldova. Partnering with ADA and EU broadens SDC perspectives of promoting Swiss expertise at a larger scale; influencing the sector institutional set-up and fostering decentralization of water supply and management. |
| Obiettivi |
The quality of life and public health of the population in the Nisporeni, Varzaresti and Grozesti municipalities are improved by better access to safe drinking water and basic sanitation. |
| Gruppi target |
Ultimately the local population (approx. 23,000) and business community will benefit from improved access to safe drinking water and sanitation services, which will make better the quality of life and spur economic development in the concerned municipalities. National environmental/ health authorities and district/local level administrations, water utility and sanitation operators will enhance their knowledge and skills and be able to efficiently manage, operate and maintain the rehabilitated water supply and sanitation system. |
| Effetti a medio termine |
Provided sustainable potable water services and adequate sanitation is accessible and affordable to the population of Nisporeni, VArzaresti and Grozesti municipalities |
| Risultati |
