Monitoring of the brucellosis vaccination campaign

Brucellosis is the most prevalent disease transmitted from animals to people in Mongolia. SDC’s Animal Health Project supported the Government of Mongolia in establishing a monitoring system for brucellosis control. Under this system, the quality of the livestock vaccination campaign is monitored and people are tested for brucellosis, making it possible to assess the long-term impact of the campaign. In the past three years, trainings have been been conducted for more than 50 veterinarians and physicians in all aimags, and the study protocol has been tested in all regions.

“Onsite Insights” looks deeper into brucellosis and its impact on livestock and people.



Retrofitted kindergartens in Khovd and Zavkhan model energy efficiency in public buildings

The retrofitting of public kintergartens in Khovd and Zavkhan aimags is being heralded as a model for Public Investment in Energy Efficiency in remote western Mongolia. Co-funded by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), the German International Technical Cooperation (GIZ) undertook the retrofitting of the kindergartens. Today, the kindergarten 5 in Uliastai, Zavkhan has just welcomed youngsters into the almost-new building.

In 2014, Switzerland and Mongolia celebrate their 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations and the 10th anniversary of Swiss development cooperation in Mongolia. To mark this occasion SDC director Martin Dahinden will travel to Ulaanbaatar from 20 to 22 May where he will meet high-level government representatives and represent Switzerland at the official celebrations.


Swiss government names new Ambassadors

The Swiss government (Federal Council) has approved the list of diplomatic staff transfers scheduled for 2014 submitted by the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs. The changes will be made in accordance with the normal rate of transfers, to be communicated at the time of the decision by the Federal Council. The appointments of Heads of Mission take effect as soon as the authorities in the host country communicate their approval. The Federal Council takes this opportunity to express its gratitude to the Ambassadors due to retire for the services rendered.


Artisanal miners undertake innovative frugal rehabilitation

“We recognise how much has been done by artisanal miners. It has been a headache for our communities in how to deal with all this abandoned land,” said Mr Ganbaatar, Governor of Airag soum in Dornogovi aimag, at the Artisanal and Small-scale Mining (ASM) Multi-Stakeholders’ Regional Workshop held in the aimag in October.
