In order to foster the cultural exchanges between Switzerland and Mongolia and to support the emerging artists of Mongolia, the Ambassador of Switzerland in China – also accredited in Mongolia – creates a Prize of the Ambassador of Switzerland in Mongolia. This prize will contribute to encourage Mongolian artists to open themselves to other countries, other cultures and other artists.The competition attracted 22 Mongolian artists, including young artist and photographer B.Namuun, who won the award. She was awarded a three-months scholarship at the Geneva University of Art and Design in Switzerland.

Government officials, industry representatives and livestock producers gathered in Ulaanbaatar in June to address the sustainability of the livestock sector given the dynamics and uncertainties of a rapidly changing environment. The 8th Annual Meeting of the Global Agenda for Sustainable Livestock (GASL) from June 11-15, was themed “Towards Sustainable Livestock, Livestock on the Move” and focused on four key themes: Food and nutrition security; livelihoods and growth; health and animal welfare; and climate and natural resource use.

Improving the export potential of Mongolia’s meat is the goal of a new initiative being implemented under SDC’s Green Gold Animal Health Project in collaboration with the State Veterinary and Animal Health Agency. The introduction of a web-based “Animal Identification and Health Traceability System” that is aligned with international standards was tested in 2017 in Tariat and Undurshireet soums in Arkhangai aimag, and, following a request from the Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Light Industry, was scaled up to 15 soums in six western aimags in 2018.

Switzerland and Mongolia signed two agreements on Thursday following a meeting between Federal Councillor Ignazio Cassis and Mongolian Foreign Minister Damdin Tsogtbaatar in Ulaanbaatar. Both ministers confirmed the excellent relations between the two countries at the meeting. By signing the readmission agreement, Mongolia has pledged to take back any of its citizens living in Switzerland without a permit. The second agreement will exempt Swiss and Mongolian diplomats from the visa requirement in both countries.
