Scaling Up Youth Employment in Agriculture Initiative

Education systems in Southern Africa do not prepare youth for work; they cannot access or create economic opportunities and ignore the available options. The project will scale up in Southern Africa a model already tested by Switzerland in Tanzania. It will improve (self)-employment of 20’000 young women and men in Zimbabwe and Zambia by strengthening their skills and matching them with existing job opportunities, thereby contributing to the implementation of youth policies in-country and regionally.


Anti-corruption and Accountability

Based on the relationship of trust between Switzerland and Mozambique and specific Swiss expertise and interest to tackle economic crime and recovery of assets the program will reduce corruption in Mozambique by strengthening the capacity of 1. Government institutions to effectively tackle corruption, economic crime and recover stolen assets 2. Civil society organizations to influence the public and the private sector for improved transparency and accountability.

Futuro Microbank

Increased availability of financial services to the rural population is one of the main objectives of the Government as defined in the 5-year Government Plan 2015-19. This project aims at offering diversified financial services to micro and small entrepreneurs, men and women farmers who are part of the 85% not having access. Those services will be delivered in a professional and profitable manner by a micro-bank, which will further expand to strategic areas in rural and peri-urban Mozambique. 


Gender transformative SRHR Systems for Improved HIV prevention

This programme contributes to the reduction of HIV infections and the improvement of sexual and reproductive health status of adolescents and young people in five Southern African countries. It strengthens capacities of communities and governments in mapping and addressing HIV and Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) needs of young people and advocates for integrated regional policies and frameworks.


Inovagro Private Sector Led Rural Growth

Inovagro aims at increasing the incomes of poor farmers in Northern Mozambique, through ‘pro-poor’ private sector development. It improves farmers’ access to inputs and markets through local private, public and civil society partners. Phase III will consolidate the work of previous phases and focus on scale-up and replicability of successful interventions. There will also be a stronger focus on women inclusion, risk reduction, communication and knowledge sharing based on lessons learnt over the past years.

Nel Nord del Mozambico, un’area molto povera, numerose malattie sono da ricondurre alle condizioni precarie delle risorse idriche e del settore igienico-sanitario. La DSC sostiene gli sforzi della popolazione locale e delle autorità in quest’ambito. L’obiettivo del progetto è migliorare le condizioni di vita di mezzo milione di persone e ridurre la povertà.

Cultural Programme (CPM)

Ce programme s'appuie sur la richesse et le potentiel de la culture mozambicaine pour le développement humain. En soutenant les plateformes dédiées à la culture et aux arts, la DDC vise à contribuer au renforcement du capital social du pays. Le CP a trois composantes opérationnelles et se concentre sur le nord du pays, avec comme centre Cabo Delgado, avec une orientation communautaire - domaine où la DDC a été pionnière dans l'approche de la culture pour le développement - ainsi que sur la région de la capitale de Maputo et ses environs. La CP s’inscrit pleinement dans la stratégie pays de la DDC Mozambique 2017-2020.


Advancing Land Use Rights

Competition for land in Mozambique is sharply increasing. Despite favourable land legislation for the protection of interests and rights of the local communities the concretization of these rights is still precarious. SDC’s program supports the realization of these community rights to land and its benefits through institutional development, strengthening dialogue and practical collaboration between local government, civil society and private sector in order to contribute to a more inclusive and sustainable development.


Regional Arts and Culture Programme (RACP)

Southern Africa has a strong artistic heritage and cultural tradition which exudes from the talent of its diverse people. However, this rich heritage has been stifled by the lack of capacity, networking and resources among artists in the region. Through this programme, Switzerland supports art organisations and individual artists in Southern Africa to bring fresh perspectives, build on available cultural resources and strengthen the arts and culture sector’s contribution to development in the region.


Regional Vulnerability Assessment and Analysis (RVAA)

The project supports the Southern African Development Community (SADC) and its Member States in reducing vulnerability of households to disaster risks by increasing their preparedness for response and recovery and in strengthening their resilience. This will be achieved through institutionalising and sustaining vulnerability assessments and analyses systems that enhance emergency and developmental responses at national and regional levels.

Rural Resilience in Southern Africa / R4 Initiative

The project builds resilience of smallholder farmer households in three countries in Southern Africa (Malawi, Zambia and Zimbabwe) by enabling their adaptation to climate risk through a community oriented and market based risk management comprehensive approach. The initiative combines improved resource management (risk reduction), insurance (risk transfer), livelihoods diversification and microcredit (prudent risk taking) and savings (risk reserves). The combined interventions are carefully adapted to each country context.


Health Promotion Cabo Delgado

Switzerland contributed to health promotion in Cabo Delgado Province in Northern Mozambique by supporting the retention of health promotion workers, strengthening community involvement and the public finance management. Phase 2 of the project builds up on this and newly address Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) in order to improve access and quality in the provision of health and WASH services targeting the 23 rural health posts in  three districts of the Province that are serving a total population of 570’000 people.
