Municipal Development Programme Mozambique - PRODEM

In the framework of the ongoing decentralization process in Mozambique, 53 municipalities have been established since 1998. The programme aims to contribute to urban poverty reduction and a sustainable development of 26 municipalities. This shall be achieved through improvements in municipal government’s administration with a focus on service delivery and resilience to climate change impact complemented by enhanced citizen’s participation and social accountability.

Strengthening Social Accountability and Oversight in Health and Agriculture

This project aims to contribute to the equitable, effective and accountable allocation and use of public resources for health and agriculture in SADC countries by addressing social accountability in a systemic approach in strengthening the roles of relevant parliamentary committees, civil society organizations, smallholder farmer organisations and the media. The first phase of the project will focus on Malawi, Mozambique, Tanzania and Zambia.

HIV Prevention Program - Community Systems for integrated HIV and Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights

This HIV prevention program of the Southern African Aids Trust will strengthen the capacities of communities in mapping and addressing HIV and Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) needs of especially adolescents, young people and women in Zimbabwe, Zambia, Tanzania, Botswana and Malawi. It will support the Ministries of Health and Education at country level and advocate for regional policies and frameworks at SADC level to improve integrated service delivery of HIV and SRHR.

Support to National Decentralised Planning and Finance Programme (PNPFD)

In 2005, the district has been declared the cornerstone of development in Mozambique. It is the primary level of the national planning system and it is the level where sector policies are operationalised. The aim of the intervention is to improve the institutional capacity of the Local State Bodies (Provinces, Districts) in managing public resources for district development in a participative and transparent way.

Advancing Land Use Rights and Natural Resources Benefits

Approved in 2009, the Mozambican legislation on land, forestry and fauna is considered as one of the most progressive in terms of protection of the interests of the local communities. However more than 14 years after its approval, the rights of the communities are still precarious. SDC program aims at advancing the land use rights of the local communities as a necessary asset for a more sustainable economic development.

Integrated Program to fight HIV/AIDS

Mozambique still faces a severe generalized HIV epidemic that taxes the fragile health system and has adverse effects on growth as well as development in the country. With the aim to contribute to lessen the impact of HIV/AIDS, this program introduces essential components of an integrated strategy for the prevention and treatment of HIV/AIDS.

Strengthening Seed and Output Markets in Zimbabwe, Lesotho and Swaziland (SAMP2)

This project will increase food security by developing the capacity of smallholder farmers to locally produce improved seed and stimulate local formal and informal seed markets. To achieve this, the project will work to remove barriers to accessing inputs and agronomic training; develop farmer and community organizational skills to meet seed production standards; and promote efficient strategies for seed processing, packaging, marketing and informal exchanges.

Safeguard Young People – Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRHR)

The UNFPA Safeguard Young People Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights/HIV (SRHR) programme will contribute to the reduction of HIV infections and improved sexual and reproductive health status of young women and men aged 10 to 24 in 8 Southern African countries1. UNFPA will scale up SRHR/HIV prevention models in order to equip young people with knowledge, skills and values to protect themselves from HIV infections and capacitate member states to improve the legislative environment to address young people’s health issues.

Seed and Knowledge Initiative (SKI)

The project contributes to strengthening and consolidating local knowledge and practices on seeds for better resilience. In parallel, research is conducted on community seed systems and the interface between the formal and informal seed sectors. This will inform advocacy strategies and influence the policy-making and scientific narrative for improved seed and food security in the SADC region (Zimbabwe, Zambia, Swaziland, Mozambique, South Africa).
