Population and Housing Census of Myanmar 2014
No census has been conducted in Myanmar since 1983, and then the conflict areas were not included. As a result, the new Government and partners including Switzerland lack essential data for planning, monitoring and evaluating reforms and programmes. The successful implementation of the 2014 Population and Housing Census would fill that important gap.

The last census was conducted in 1983 and conflict areas were not covered. The new government has launched reforms in 2011 and together with international public and private partners, as well as Non State Armed Groups, it needs population data in order to plan, monitor and evaluate them as well as other projects. It is essential for research and will support the election process of 2015 (mainly logistically, not with voter registration which is a separate exercise). Preparatory work has already started and lessons learned from a pilot census have been integrated into the project plans and risk matrix.
To contribute the improvement of the quality of life of the population of Myanmar through providing the government and other stakeholders with relevant, reliable, and timely data and information for development planning, policy formulation and delivery of services as well as for monitoring and evaluation of development programs and plans.
The 2014 population census project intends to benefit the whole population in the country as well as international partners. The project is expected to collect the demographic data of citizens residing both in government controlled area and Non State Armed Group areas. Direct beneficiaries will include the Department of Population, local Departments of Immigration, and nearly 100,000 school teachers who will be trained as enumerators
The Government , international organisations and Myanmar civil society have access to, and are able to use, recent and reliable data and analysis of the population of Myanmar
