Support of Mandates in the field of Tropical Forests, V

Projekt abgeschlossen

Through the mandate the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs SECO is supported to implement its strategy on tropical forests. On one side Helvetas Swiss Intercooperation is following up independently on projects related to tropical forests and on the other hand the partner is advising SECO on all issues related to tropical forests including international policy dialogue.

Hintergrund

For many developing countries tropical forests are an important and potentially sustainable source of income. Furthermore, the conservation of tropical forests plays a crucial role in preserving ethnic diversity. In addition, in the international debate on climate change the importance of especially tropical forests has been confirmed. On this background SECO is promoting framework conditions that support trade of sustainably produced timber and other forest products and encourage the financial compensation of the forests' ecosystem services.

Ziele

Switzerland is recognized as active and competent partner in the international dialogue on policies on sustainable forest management, timber trade, REDD+ and innovative topics. This contributes to the improvement of the international policy framework for sustainable development in the tropics

Mittelfristige Wirkungen

Outcome 1: Switzerland?s role in international initiatives which address policies on sustainable tropical forest management and timber trade is effective.

Outcome 2: Switzerland?s role in international initiatives which address REDD+ is effective.

Outcome 3: Switzerland?s? role in the promotion of innovative new topics is visible.
