Pilot models for environmentally friendly collection and temporary storage of hazardous household waste

Despite existing policy and regulatory frameworks in the field of national waste management in Bulgaria, efficient solutions for the waste problem are not yet employed. In order to address this, law-conforming systems for environmentally friendly collection and temporary storage of hazardous household waste (HHW) shall be established in a pilot project covering 22 pilot municipalities.

Institutionalization of European Energy Award

The “Energy City / European Energy Award” is a certification system for sustainable energy management in municipalities. The implementation of the related controlling process favors the optimal allocation of resources to energy relevant projects. The "European Energy Award" is a good instrument to pursue the objectives of the EU program "Covenant of Mayors" which promotes the 20/20/20 objectives to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 20%, improve energy efficiency by 20% and increase the share of renewable energy in the energy mix by 20%, at the level of municipalities.

Strenghtening Small Business Membership Organisations

The business climate in Ukraine is severely hampered by an over-bearing and opaque regulatory framework and captured by powerful political and economic elites. Corruption is widespread and the economy dominated by large monopolies, often state owned. The current transition is an opportunity to break with past practices and to provide more competition and equitable participation in economic opportunities for the SME sector. The project therefore aims to support Business Membership Organizations (BMOs) in order to provide a collective voice to small businesses, to improve the regulatory environment through a public-private dialogue and to support their members in improving their operational performance.

Natural Capital Finance Alliance

The Natural Capital Finance Alliance (NCFA) is a financial industry-led initiative aiming to quantify the risks of Natural Capital (e.g. water, soil, rainforest) in financial institutions investment and lending decisions. A methodology will be elaborated and tested at the global level and in some of Switzerland's priority countries.


Water sanitation in 10 medium-sized cities

This program includes the construction and expansion of existing sewerage systems and the construction of waste water treatment plants (WWTP) in medium-sized cities in Tunisia. It is planned to dedicate the Swiss financing for the construction of the WWTP in Tajérouine, for complementary measures and for the implementation consultant.

Methodological Support for the Development of Green Public Procurement

Public institutions belong to the most important buyers of goods and services in many coun­tries. This project aims to support Bulgaria in its effort to turn “Green Public Procure­ment (GPP)” into practice, by providing methodological and practical support to public procure­ment authorities as well as to suppliers of goods and services, by increasing the awareness and exchanging best practi­ces, and by elaborating a practical handbook and its use in public procurement processes. Thereby, the EU’s recommendations on GPP to its member states are taken into account.

Tuzla and Zenica floods rehabilitation and Disaster Risk Reduction measures
