The Federal Council has approved the sharing of premises with the Netherlands by the Swiss diplomatic representation in Oman and has authorised the FDFA to conclude further property-sharing agreements with Denmark in Nigeria (Abuja, Lagos) and with the Netherlands in Angola (Luanda) and in Cyprus (Nicosia).

Switzerland-Nigeria: a migration partnership that has evolved in three years

Over three years after Switzerland and Nigeria signed their migration partnership agreement, the delegations of these two countries met today in Abuja for the 5th technical committee meeting. One of the main points of discussion was Switzerland's recently launched regional migration and development programme in West Africa, for which Nigeria is one of the main beneficiaries. The meeting also enabled follow-up of the June 2013 joint action plan to counter irregular migration, improve police cooperation and assess progress made in various projects.

Today Switzerland and Nigeria have held talks on the migration partnership between the two countries, on the occasion of the visit to Switzerland of Nigerian Secretary of State Martin Uhomoibhi. The discussions covered joint activities and projects in various areas, such as police cooperation and cooperation with the Nigerian diaspora in the area of professional training. The action plan presented by Switzerland with regard to asylum and returns was accepted by Nigeria.

Coronavirus: Switzerland adapts its entry requirements for transit air travel

Bern-Wabern, 28.08.2020 - As of 31 August, it will no longer be possible to enter Switzerland from a high-risk country on a transit flight via a non-high-risk country. However, passengers travelling from a non-high-risk country will be able to enter Switzerland even if they have a stopover in a high-risk country, provided they do not leave the transit area of the airport. Until now, it has been possible to circumvent the entry restrictions by travelling via airports in countries not on the high-risk list.

At the request of Nigerian stakeholders, the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA) has contributed technical expertise and financial support to efforts to prevent election-related violence, working in cooperation with local and international partners such as the Kofi Annan Foundation.

Bern, 04.12.2017 - In keeping with its policy of returning illegally acquired assets, Switzerland has reached an agreement with Nigeria and the World Bank on the restitution of approximately USD 321 million to Nigeria's population. The modalities of restitution are set out in an agreement which was signed by the three parties on 4 December in Washington D.C. at the Global Forum on Asset Recovery (GFAR).
